Having had rheumatic fever as a child and endocarditis at age 40, my heart valves had issues. The first surgery replaced the aortic valve and this second surgery would repair or replace the mitral valve.
Several tests later the problem with the mitral valve was confirmed but one more problem would be added to the list. A large aneurism had been found. Then I met Dr. Caldeira.
His calm and gentle manner was felt the minute he sat on the side of my bed. He was confident that my heart could be fixed and spent a great deal of time with my wife and me answering endless questions. Every nurse and doctor on staff at TGH said we had the best heart surgeon to be found. His education and experience are both staggering and impressive.
The surgery went without any problems and, here I am, eighteen months later, in better shape than ever, looking forward to many years with my wife and family and spoiling our 4 beautiful grandchildren.
My wife and I can never thank God and Dr. Caldeira enough."

"Dearest Miracle Workers
It is sixteen weeks yesterday since I had mitral/tricuspid/mazing procedures. I awake each morning offering prayers of gratitude for all those serving in the cardiac unit. While it is not possible to list every name of those who cared for me so very ably. The outstanding and knowledgeable support staff, nursing staff, intensive care, nursing aides, x-ray, respiratory and physical therapists, dietary and even the delightful cleaning woman, of Cuban decent, who gave me her quiet smiles and wished me well daily. I thank God for you all daily. You are the best!!!
Of course I must give highest praise to all the wonderful TGH doctors and Dr. Marc Stauffer, all of whom kept a watchful eye on me daily post operatively. Last, but not least, the very talented, skilled, dedicated and wonderful surgeon, Dr. Caldeira and his staff.
It is with humble gratefulness and a strong healing heart that I say Thank You, which seems so inadequate for the great miracles you all accomplish each day.
May God's richest blessings continue to guide your amazing hearts, heads and hands always."

Dear Doctor Caldeira:
On Sept. 29, 2008 I was diagnosed with virtually 100% blockage in my aortic and two major coronary arteries. At 8:00 A.M. the next day you successfully operated to correct these problems. You are consummately skilled and have a super bedside manner that put me totally at ease. I have never felt better than during the last year and last month I had total hip replacement surgery which has gotten me out of my wheelchair.
God bless you for saving my life.

Dear Doctor Caldeira:After being tired for months, in May of 2009, I went in for a catheterization in which I thought would be a simple procedure. Not realizing the extent of my condition, I had to have open heart surgery the next day.
My cardiologist recommended Dr. Caldeira and I could not have been more pleased with his choice. His explanation of the procedure was easy for my family to understand, while his concern for my other health conditions made me feel that I was in good hands.
I thank God everyday that he provided me with such an extraordinary surgeon and man. He saved my life.

Dear Doctor Caldeira:
It's been about four months since John's Surgery and he's getting back to his old self! It's hard to believe that he was so critically ill a few months ago and is now ready to drive his motorcycle and race his cars again (The bike will be sold soon hopefully!). Sometimes we forget for a moment that all of this happened, but we will always remember how amazing you are and how you saved his life.
We never thought anything like this could happen but are so thankful that he was transferred to TGH so that you could help him when he needed it most. You gave my husband back to me and we can go on with our life together. Thank you so much. Words could never express my happiness for what you have done. You truly are "The Man!"
